Nina Best is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Brazil program under a unique partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), NPI EXPAND, the Partnership Platform for the Amazon (PPA) and SITAWI Finance for Good. In Brazil, these entities have come together to mitigate the health and economic effects of COVID-19 on indigenous, quilombola and other vulnerable populations within Brazil’s Amazon Region. The initiative pairs USAID funding with corporate co-investments to promote risk communication and community engagement, infection prevention, income generation and recovery post-isolation, hospital support, and financial advisory and lending support to small businesses impacted by COVID-19 in the Amazon. Nina has extensive experience in project management focusing on gender, youth, socioeconomic minorities, human rights, sustainable development, social entrepreneurship, and impact investment, having worked in senior management positions with numerous NGOs in Brazil, and most recently in the Amazonas State government. She is based in Manaus, in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon. Nina is fluent in Portuguese and English. She holds a bachelor´s degree in Political Science and Latin American & Caribbean Studies from McGill University, Canada, and a master´s degree in Public Administration and Government from the Fundação Getúlio Vargas, Brazil.
